News From the President  (Oct 2020)

SDSPLS Members,

I would like to thank Rebecca Dodds for the last two years of service to the SDSPLS. During that time, the SDSPLS has gone online with renewal and registration through the implementation of the online Wild Apricot membership database and new webpages. Additionally, the financial management of the organization has been updated with the use of QuickBooks. Rebecca resigned in July as she has the opportunity to expand her private practice. She has expressed how much she cares for the SDSPLS and its members, and will stay on to assist with the transition of our new director. Rebecca also shared she looks forward to volunteering in the future and maintain connection with members.

Please welcome Alesha Limbo as our new Executive Director effective October 1st, 2020. Alesha is excited to build on the strengths of the organization, assist with growing the membership and raising awareness for the surveying profession. She has a strong background in financial administration and non-profit experience which includes event planning. She is a co-owner of All Aspects, Inc. in Spearfish, SD along with her husband, Brad. Alesha is very comfortable in the position so far, and has taken full responsibility for the planning of our upcoming virtual convention and meetings and is doing a great job.

Along with the above change, please note that the phone number, email contact information, and address of the SDSPLS has changed. Please check your email regularly over the next few months to stay up to date on the virtual convention and other items relevant to the SDSPLS and NSPS.

The Board of Directors has made the decision to go virtual with the convention this year. You will be able to gain all 15 of your professional development hours through attendance. Alesha has confirmed with the South Dakota Board of Technical Professions that these will be accepted. The dates of the convention will remain the same, January 6-8, 2021 with the Annual Meeting being the morning of the 6th. We are looking forward to having Wendy Lathrop back to be our headliner this year. Registration information can be found in the November newsletter as well as online. Please check your email for additional information and updates.

We look forward to virtually seeing you in January.

Travis Jacobson, RPLS

2020 SDSPLS President
